How many concurrent users does your space support, and is there any traffic limit?

To ensure the stable operation of virtual hosting, our company's hosting space has traffic limits, with no limit on the number of IIS connections. Basic virtual hosting supports 40G/month, which is roughly equivalent to supporting about 5,000 visitors per day and about 200 concurrent online connections.

-------------------------------------

Virtual hosting resources (CPU, memory, bandwidth, etc.) are always limited. To ensure that hundreds of users on the virtual hosting can access normally, certain limits must be

imposed on each virtual hosting site to prevent a few sites with relatively large traffic from occupying most of the service resources and causing slow or unstable server

performance.

Current virtual hosting is mainly divided into three types of traffic restrictions:

1: Traffic Restrictions

This limits the total monthly traffic of a website. After the monthly traffic is exceeded, the website is automatically closed and automatically reopened at the beginning of the next month. The solution is to upgrade the space or increase the traffic! 10G of traffic roughly supports 50 concurrent online users or about 2,500 views per day.

Advantages: The data can be quantified. Both service providers and users can understand daily and monthly traffic in detail. Combined with logs and access statistics, it can

analyze which file accesses caused the traffic increase.

Disadvantages: Implementation is relatively complex. It requires retaining users' access logs and automatically summarizing statistics with a program every day. It also requires designing a program to automatically close

and reopen websites that exceed the traffic limit. Therefore, small and medium-sized virtual hosting service providers lacking technical strength cannot support this restriction method.

At present, the top 10 virtual hosting service providers nationwide: 新网, 万网, 中国频道, 商务中国, 新网互联, 通联无限, 你好万

维, 西部数码, etc., all use this traffic restriction method.

2: IIS Restrictions

IIS restriction is currently the most commonly used restriction method by small and medium-sized virtual hosting service providers, namely limiting the number of concurrent connections to a website. If too many people access at the same time,

the website cannot be opened.
Advantages: Implementation is very simple; it can be set directly in the server's IIS. No program development is required.
Disadvantages: The data cannot be quantified. Neither service providers nor users can see the website's concurrent connections. If a user's website shows a prompt such as Service

Unavailable, the service provider will say that the user has too many concurrent connections, while the user will say that only a few people are online on my website. In addition, IIS restrictions

sometimes cannot truly play the role of restricting websites that especially consume resources. According to tests, for a website with an IIS limit of 100 connections, providing rar files for users

to download, the total daily traffic can reach more than 30G. And 30G of traffic is the total daily traffic of a normal virtual hosting server. That is, a

website costing a few hundred yuan can use up the resources of the entire server, and IIS restrictions do not truly achieve the purpose of restriction. Some dishonest service providers promise users 200 IIS connections, but set the server to 20 connections, and users are unaware!

3: CPU Restrictions

CPU restrictions are usually set to a 1% or 2% CPU limit, and after exceeding CPU resources it is automatically closed.
Advantages: Implementation is very simple; it can be set directly in the server's IIS. No program development is required.
Disadvantages: The data cannot be quantified. Neither service providers nor users can see the website's current CPU usage. If the server is win2000, CPU restrictions basically

have no effect and cannot achieve the restriction effect. If it is win2003, because many sites share one process pool, if "close when CPU resources are exceeded" is

set, and one website in the pool uses too many resources, it will cause the pool to hang, affecting the normal operation of other websites in the same pool. Moreover, the recovery time

is relatively slow! CPU restrictions often cause websites to frequently fail to open, so few service providers adopt this method.

There is another type: virtual hosting with no restrictions at all. The 8th-ranked virtual hosting service provider nationwide: 时代互联 claims that its virtual hosting

has unlimited traffic and IIS, but according to its users on 百度贴吧, once a user's traffic is relatively large, it will be closed and they will be required to upgrade, with the reason: the website occupies too many server

resources.

In summary, traffic restriction is currently the most reasonable restriction method, adopted by 80% of large virtual hosting service providers. When user traffic is not large,

such as for enterprise websites, no matter what restriction method the service provider adopts, users generally cannot experience the difference. When user traffic is relatively large,

the difference becomes apparent. Users had better tailor their choices and select a hosting type matching their own website's traffic; otherwise the website will not perform ideally.
