[Original] How to Create an Alias Address for a Server

Published: 2020-10-21

During server use, sites are continuously created and added. These all require domain names to point to the server IP address to enable website access or management.

But when server IP address changes, all these domain names that have been resolved to the server must have their resolution changed to the new IP, which is very troublesome!

Domain resolution is done directly on the domain resolution platform. You can do A records and CNAME records.

If you do CNAME resolution, it resolves to a URL form. This URL can be set and assigned by yourself, as long as you have a domain name.

For example: Now there is a domain name west1.cn

Server IP address 211.149.149.X

Find any domain name in the domain list, take ”west1.cn” as an example and go directly to the domain resolution platform to add an A record type.

This assigns the server an "x.west1.cn" alias address. From now on, this "x.west1.cn" represents the 211.149.149.X address.

For all other domain names, no matter where the registrar is, on the corresponding domain resolution platform, add an alias that points to x.west1.cn, so that all domain names can point to the server IP address!

In later server use and management, when the server IP address changes, the convenience of the alias will become apparent.

We only need to modify the ”west1.cn” in x hostname's corresponding IP address, and all domain names' pointing addresses will be updated to the new IP address, without having to modify the resolution pointing for each domain name.

Our company will soon stop providing free second-level domains with Hong Kong/US cloud servers. Therefore, we recommend that you follow the above steps to create a separate corresponding server alias for your server, for use in domain pointing resolution on the server.

If your previous domain names have all been set to resolve to the second-level domain provided by our company, please refer to the above to create an alias, and change the previous alias s-XXX.gotocdn.com. to the alias address you set above.
