On July 2, according to foreign media domaingang, Citi Bank, a world-renowned financial giant and the largest bank in the United States, recently lost a complaint under the UDRP (Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy) and failed to obtain ownership of the disputed domain name Citifymarketplace.com.

Citi Bank is probably familiar to everyone. It is a retail bank under Citigroup, whose main predecessor was the "City Bank of New York" founded on June 16, 1812. It has become one of the largest banks in the United States and an international bank with branches in nearly 150 countries and regions around the world. In 2012, Citi Bank (China) Co., Ltd. announced in Shanghai that its credit card business in China officially began operations.

Although there are many cases where well-known end users have recovered domain names through UDRP complaints, this does not mean that well-known companies always succeed. It is understood that the reason Citi Bank filed a complaint over the domain name Citifymarketplace.com (literally translated as "urbanization market") is that the bank holds the brand trademark "citify" and has spared no effort in protecting its brand.

Citi Bank stated that "citify" is one of the brands it is promoting. CITIFY is simple and practical, allowing users to buy and sell anything found in their local city. It is very simple to create a business or expand the scope of current operations; only a 5% commission is charged after a sale, and a store can be opened for free initially. The registrant used the domain name Citifymarketplace.com to build a website, which infringed on Citi Bank's rights and interests.

In response, the respondent disagreed, stating that the products and services offered on its website are completely different from those provided by the complainant Citi Bank. The products on its website are provided under Policy 4(c)(i), while the complainant Citi Bank's products include antiques, mobile phones, electronic products, jewelry and clothing.

Finally, according to the panel's decision, the disputed domain name Citidemarketplace.com remains with the original registrant. At present, the website built with the domain name Citidemarketplace.com has been restored for use.
