How to create a folder starting with a dot on Windows servers and virtual hosts.
Published: 2017-04-12
I. Create it using FTP software: log in to the site root directory with FTP software, right-click to create a directory, and enter the directory name to be created. Note: Because it is a folder with a leading dot, after creation you cannot check whether it was created successfully via FTP software. You need to check it in File Management in the virtual host management or by logging in to the server.
II. For Windows servers, create it using commands.
By default, Windows does not allow creating folders or files whose names begin with a dot (.) through the desktop method, but this does not mean such files are not supported. You can use cmd commands to create them.
1. Click Start--Run.

2. Type cmd in Run, and then click OK to enter the command window.

3. Taking the site path created by our Website Building Assistant as an example, execute the following commands in the command window (red text part), the green part is the operation instructions, and the blue part is the content displayed by the system by default:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:\Users\Administrator>d: //Enter drive D
D:\>cd wwwroot\test1\wwwroot //Enter the website root directory. When performing the operation, replace test1 with your website directory name.
D:\wwwroot\test1\wwwroot>mkdir .well-known //Create a folder named .well-known (this folder is the file verification folder for SSL certificate application)

4. Go to the specified folder to view the creation result:

III. For virtual hosts, use the file management function to create it.
1. Open the virtual host control panel and click File Management:

2. Click New Directory, enter the directory name to create in the directory field, and click OK.
