Reason why a Domain Validation (DV) certificate prompts that this type of certificate cannot be applied for?
Published: 2017-03-15
When applying for a Domain Validated DV certificate, after entering the domain name, the prompt "Cannot apply for this type of certificate" appears, as shown in the figure:

Reason: Because the validation level of DV certificates is relatively low, in order to prevent domains suspected of phishing from applying for SSL certificates to carry out phishing attacks, the CA has set up a series of rules in the system to reject suspicious domains from applying for DV certificates. The specific rules are not disclosed. For example, domain names containing sensitive words such as bank, pay, or related to financial payments, or related to well-known websites such as Google, as well as other domain blacklists (malicious domains) and whitelists (well-known domains), etc., may all cause the DV certificate application to be rejected.
Solution: It is recommended to choose an OV/EV certificate or change the validated domain.
Because OV/EV certificates are manually reviewed, the compliance of the domain name can be demonstrated through domain ownership, manual verification by lawyer's letter, and enterprise information qualifications.
