How to obtain the domain transfer password?

Published: 2019-11-11

To transfer a domain to another registrar, you must obtain the transfer password (auth-code) from the original registrar before proceeding. For foreign registrars such as Godaddy, generally you can directly click a button in the control panel to send the auth-code to the domain owner's email. Domestic registrars generally do not have the function of freely obtaining the transfer password; you need to contact the registrar or the reseller through which the domain was previously registered, manually request the transfer password, or submit a request to transfer the domain out. In this way, the original registrar will generally give the corresponding handling process.

If the domain was originally purchased through a reseller of registrars such as 万网, 新网, etc., and the reseller does not provide the transfer password, you can first complain directly to the registrar such as 万网. If the registrar also does not cooperate, then complain to registries such as ICANN, CNNIC.

According to the rules of domain-related management organizations (ICANN domain transfer policy), the original registrar may not arbitrarily refuse or restrict the transfer-out of a domain, nor may it charge additional fees for domain transfer-out under any name; if the original registrar blocks domain transfer-out under various names or requires fees for domain transfer-out,

the domain holder may file a complaint in the following ways;
International domain complaint address:http://www.icann.org/en/resources/compliance/complaints/transfer/form    (If you are not familiar with English, see the help later in this article)

Domestic domain complaint methods: complaint email is supervise@cnnic.cn, complaint phone is 010-58813000
(For domestic domain transfers, some registrars require mailing a transfer application form, ID card, business license copy, etc. before providing the transfer password. In response to this deliberate blocking of transfer, you can contact CNNIC to complain  complaint email is supervise@cnnic.cn, complaint phone is 010-58813000. In the complaint email, please specify your domain and attach scanned copies of ID card, business license, etc., to prove that you are the owner of the domain, and send the email using the domain owner's email.   Currently registrars such as 万网, 西部数码 do not require mailing original documents; you can directly upload the documents online to transfer the domain. Some other registrars require mailing original documents to block transfer)

The following is the complaint process for international domains. Generally, the transfer password will be received a few days after the complaint.

ICANN domain complaint

When transferring a domain to another registrar, if the original registrar refuses the transfer, or blocks the transfer for various reasons, issues involving international domains can all be complained about at ICANN. Generally speaking, because ICANN has the right to revoke registrar accreditation or impose penalties based on user complaints, complaints are quite effective. By submitting an online complaint against the registrar, you can obtain the transfer authorization code. The situation description filled in on the complaint webpage must be submitted in English; you can refer to the template format and modify the corresponding information for use.

A English letter template (the Chinese in parentheses is a note explaining the replacement text; replace it with the corresponding content and delete the Chinese):

Hello,
I registered my domain mydoname.com  (registered domain) at xxx (registrar, Registrar in whois; if unclear, you may leave this item blank). I am not satisfied with their service and I want to transfer my domain to other.
I can't find any place on their site to get my Auth-code. Followed their FAQ, I found they require a paper form to be filled and mailed to their office with a hard copy of my official personal photo ID or/and passport. I feel very uncomfortable about this. I don't think they has authority to check my personal id and keep a hard copy, it contains lot of my privacy info. I believe this requirement is against both ICANN policy and local law.
Please help me getting my Auth-code from them.
Thanks.

B English letter template: The domain reseller refuses and requires renewal
Hello
Im a Chinese people and bought a domain mydoname.com (registered domain) in 20xx.
I decided to transfer my domain to west263.com for the better service and lower renew price.
But the agent xxx (registrar) and its agent xxxx.xx (reseller) dont provide the auth-code to me. They ask me to renew the domain first which will cost me xx RMB and 60 days.I think I’m the domain owner and I have the right of transfering my domain by free。 But many domain agents in China (not only xxx)always set up many check points and collect fees to avoid customers transfering domain out of them。
Please ask xxx。com send the auth-code of mydoname.com to it’s owner email and regulate the behavior of Chinese agents。
Thanks

II. Within about 1-5 days, you can receive a reply email from the registrar.

Generally, the domain registrar directly provides the domain's transfer authorization code.
If blocked by the original domain registration service provider, you can complain to ICANN again. The complaint interval generally should not exceed 7 days at most, and should not be less than 2-3 days at minimum; pay attention to the registrar's working hours to avoid processing delays during non-working hours.
If you do not receive the password after 5 days, you can continue to apply according to the following template:

Hello
This is the second complaint letter sent.
I registered my domain mydoname.com (registered domain) at xxx (registrar, Registrar in whois). I am not satisfied with their service and I want to transfer my domain to other.
I can't find any place on their site to get my Auth-code.

• If the domain owner's name was filled in incorrectly earlier, it can be modified; the owner's email address must be correct and usable.
• Use the email address of the owner or administrative contact in the domain whois information to fill in the report or complaint, so as to prove your management identity.
• After obtaining the transfer password, transfer promptly. If the domain is locked (lock or hold status), the transfer password will also expire after time passes.

• auth-code is the domain authorization code, i.e. the commonly called transfer password; it is not the same as the domain management password.

IV. Situations that constitute reasonable refusal:

• Handled under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP)
• A ruling made by a court or arbitration institution
• There is a dispute over the reasonable authorization of the transferor

• The domain is in a "locked" status (the registered name holder needs to provide a reasonable reason to remove the locked status.)
• The domain's initial registration time is less than 60 days, or it has just been transferred for less than 60 days.
